SOUL, JAZZ, FUNK: Celebrating the Genius of PEE WEE ELLIS

SOUL, JAZZ, FUNK: Celebrating the Genius of PEE WEE ELLIS

Chart positions

This show was 2nd in the global groove chart, 17th in the global funk chart, 23rd in the global jazz chart and 32nd in the global soul chart.

This livestream was aired on 13th Jan 2021 on M-XCLOUD. It focuses on the many musical facets of Pee Wee Ellis‘ career, from early recordings in 1963 right up to today. A very personal tribute from The Soul Preacher who has been collecting the music of Mr. Ellis in its immense variety for almost 40 years now. This tribute was impromptu and a labor of love, as is the official website of the legendary saxophonist:

I‘m sharing this program with the very important approval of Pee Wee Ellis, who also was listening live.
We hope you‘ll enjoy this musical trip!

The Prophet !! Soul Preacher, vielen Dank für deine großartigen Shows mit diesem wunderbaren Multi-Instrumentalisten und talentierten Künstler. Alfred "Pee Wee" Ellis, R.I.P.

The Soul Preacher

Danke für die lieben Worte. Eine schwierige Zeit aber mit guter Musik.

Duchess Rumph

Oh boy I'm swinging off of Dizzy Jones Birdland!! #GoPeeWeego

The Soul Preacher

Yes that song swings so beautifully. November 1963, good gracious!

Duchess Rumph

So cool and a wonderful tribute to Mr. Ellis. So happy that he was listening!

The Soul Preacher

Yes, it was wonderful that he could join me. I was so thrilled! And it was a challenge to read the chat, Pee Wee's e-mails, select the music and do the moderation all at the same time.

Amazing! Thanks.

The Soul Preacher

You're welcome. Thank you, too!

Such a beauty! 👌

Sandra Pinder

Denw - omg how beautiful - I missed that on the live show. Thank you for bringing amazing music to my ears👏🏾👏🏾♥️

The Soul Preacher

Truly beautiful. I was talking to an African friend who is from Mali and lives in my neighborhood. He said Oumo Sangaré is as popular in Mali as Aretha Franklin is popular in the USA. Pee Wee Ellis did two albums with Oumo: SEYA (from which I was playing) and WOROTAN. I'm glad to have had your company on the live show, good Sandra!

Sandra Pinder

I will have to check those out.

Esther and Pee Wee in combination - what an incredible groove!

The Soul Preacher

Absolutely. Pee Wee Ellis contributes his talent on eight of her albums:
1971 From A Whisper To A Scream (where I’m playing from)
1972 Alone Again Naturally (where I’m playing from)
1973 Black-Eyed Blues
1974 Performance
1976 Capricorn Princess
1977 You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby (Pee Wee is the producer)
1978 All About Ester Phillips
ALL great stuff.
