The newest episode of Dada Strain, “Sun Ra NOW!,” investigates not only the sustained influence the legendary jazz composer and bandleader has on today’s music, but how many of the philosophical ideas espoused by the strange man who claimed to have arrived from Saturn have come to fruition.

Joining host Piotr Orlov to discuss the contemporary manifestations of Sun Ra’s sonic and social prophecies is Harmony Holiday, a writer, dancer, archivist, filmmaker and poet who is also among the most discerning cultural critics working today. The history and future of Great Black Music is central to Harmony’s work, which makes her a great creative analyst of where Sun Ra’s ideas have arrived from, and where they’re leading us.
