"Dance me through the panic": a line from "Dance me to the end of love" by the recently, sadly deceased Leonard Cohen anchors this mix of current D&B tracks in the turbulent waters of the suddenly very uncertain time the world's been plunged into as of November 2016. Even if Cohen's songs don't exactly lend themselves to drum & bass remixing, his lyrics -- stark as lightning and dark as storms -- resonate with the tension between dread and illumination that characterizes the best drum & bass: a laser-guided sound for these unsteady times; a beacon in the gathering darkness; a way the light gets in, operating in the night.
"Why don't you come on back to the war? Let's all get nervous."
"Things are going to slide in all directions / Won't be nothing, nothing you can measure any more."
"Not steering by the venal chart / That tricked the mass for private gain, / We rise to play a greater part."
"You want it darker / We kill the flame."
