A cut-up vinyl mix of deep ex-Yu psychedelic gypsy grooves and oriental breaks (1969'-1987')
For the past two years I was obsessively digging only for groovy exYu gypsy and oriental music, going through hundreds of records, discovering in fact that this is the original form of Balkan Funk music incorporating all the main afro american funk elements in an authentic and ancient style. The solid hypnotic groove, heavily syncopated rhythms, drum breaks, psychedelia, call and response, jazz and latin alike connections and crazy crazy soloing. This mix is basically a testament of the original, ancient and authentic Funk presence in the Balkans, coming in fact from the gypsy community. I tried to capture the elongated hypnotic funk grooves, first electric accordion and synthesizer experiments in exYu gypsy music and deep deep melancholy ranging from suicidal to extreme merriness.
