This is Psychic Tuesday's 1st focal point on a literary figure as opposed to a band or musician.

This month (December '12) we concentrate on the spoken word works of William S. Burroughs, who was an American novelist, short story writer, essayist, and painter.

Burroughs was a primary figure of the Beat Generation and a major postmodernist author and he is considered to be one of the most politically trenchant, culturally influential, and innovative artists of the 20th century.

The reason I chose to focus on Burroughs was because he not only recorded a huge amount of spoken word material, but because the material he did record is so very unique and entertaining. Just his voice alone makes him stand out. His albums "Dead City Radio" and "Spare Ass Annie and Other Tales" are exceptionally colorful listening experiences, backed with soundtrack music and sound effects.

He also collaborated with many musicians ...Tom Waits, Kurt Cobain, Laurie Anderson to name a few.
