Nicky Horne: Capital Radio: "Your Mother Wouldn't Like It" 3/2/76 (90 mins)by Simon Luckin
The Rolling Stones, Bad Company, Toots & The Maytals, Stevie Wonder, Roxy Music and more.
what great times...I was 15 and this was a great introduction to rock music and in fact any decent music that wasn't in the charts.
I used to listen to Nicky while doing my 'A' level maths homework. Many years later I listened to Nicky when he was on Planet Rock while doing my sons 'A' level homework.
A great selection of music in formative years ! Happy memories.
This takes me right back. Did Nicky Horne also do a album chart show late at night? I remember him getting us all to listen carefully at each musician and each track was specifically analysed and made each list far more interesting. He actually says he's waiting for Stevie Wonders, Songs In The Key Of Life!!! I also remember eagerly waiting for it too. Did we really know how massive that album was going to be? Maybe.
Yes, he did a 'Mummy's Chart' every week which I think is what you are referring to. Originally, when Capital began, he was on from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm but then moved to 9-11pm. 'Your Mother Wouldn't Like It' was an amazing show which I really do miss to this day.
The most formative DJ in my teens (which was during the 70's)....
I'd lie in bed at night, transistor to my ear to listen to "your marijuana wouldn't like it"
Someone who played reggae!
As we used to say - amazing!!
Wow I heard this show way back when ! Thanks, you just made me sixteen again! Cheers!
Yes. Playing through my old cassettes it's always amazing when I uncover a classic from the past. Takes me right back to my teens also!! So glad you enjoyed it.
8 mins in and a bluddy reggy track on a rock show.....
Great. I'll look forward to it.
I'll find Anna - but it won't be for a while. I'd like to hear Graham Dene, again. He had quite an act to follow after Kenny Everett, but we all grew to love him, sort of.
I've got a couple of Graham Dene shows. Will upload them soon.
No - I was quoting you and then following it with a question about Anna.
I do actually have one show on a tape somewhere. I sent her a copy years ago and she was very pleased to hear it. I'll try and find it and upload it.
Yes, sorry Shilpot. I've just realised my error! No, unfortunately I don't have Anna and the Doc. Sadly, financial restraints meant I had to be very selective in taping stuff but I do have a lot more to share including Roger Scott, Kenny, Graham Dene, Kerry Juby...and even a Gerald Harper with his Sunday Affair! If you could find the Anna Raeburn though I would love to hear it.
'Have loads of other Capital stuff though which I'll upload when time permits!!'
Anna Raeburn and the Capital Doctor?
All Capital stuff will be very gratefully received Shilpot. Anna and the Doc? Wow. I listened every wednesday to that!!!
