THE AVENGERS 1972 Springbok Radio S Africa, THE SHADOW OF FU MANCHU 1939, HIS MASTER'S VOICE and MERCURY THEATER ON THE AIR.
THE AVENGERS, John Steed and Emma Peel, try to solve the mystery of “Who Shot Poor George XR40?” (he's a computer!) from Springbok Radio in South Africa 1972. We'll hear chapters 5 and 6 (of 7) this morning.
Next, from 1939, chapters 130 - 131 of THE SHADOW OF FU MANCHU, adapted from THE DRUMS OF FU MANCHU. Fu communicates with our heroes via his secret TV system and plots more mayhem as the story continues.
Orson Welles and his Mercury Players came to the airwaves for a summer series called THE MERCURY THEATER ON THE AIR on this day in history, July 11, 1938. They did a faithful adaptation of Bram Stoker's “Dracula” using great sound effects and fascinating radio technique. We are delighted to present it again this morning on it's 77th anniversary.
