I spun this downtempo, funky, melodic set for Gender Blender’s 2016 holiday party at the renowned Mission Control space in its new location in West Oakland. Mission Control has been a cornerstone in the Bay Area counterculture for more than a generation, and Gender Blender has been supporting, connecting, and inspiring queer people & allies since 2009.
This particular set will be hard for me to forget, both because of the fever-induced delirium that gripped me while I played it, the blown speaker that I heard as soon as I came on the decks, which prompted me to scale furniture in the middle of my set to turn off that infernal noise, and the eye-popping sights, riveting sounds, and surprising smells that occasionally become visible / audible / sniffable from the DJ booth at a play party.
