February 28, 2016 - Meditation with Schubert's Mass in G major

Scripture: ISAIAH 55:1-9

“Christianity,” said pastor and theologian D. T. Niles, “is one beggar telling another beggar where to find food.”  It isn’t first and foremost dogma or ritual or creed.  It’s one beggar telling another where to find food.  It’s one needy person saying to another, “This is where I find nourishment.  This is where I find rest.  This is where I find wholeness.”

The presumption in these words is that we all have some sort of need or other—some kind of thirst, some kind of hunger.  Maybe this doesn’t apply to you, but I’m guessing that most of us come here today with something that doesn’t feel quite complete.  Maybe someone you love has died, and you’re weighed down by grief.  Maybe things at work aren’t going as well as you’d like and you’re anxious.  Maybe you have an illness
