In our Galatians’ study we are learning that Paul has a lot to say about the law. Law and promise, law and faith, law and prison, law and leading...to Christ. Paul wanted the believers of Galatia and us to know what is our relationship to the law. This question is one that many people over the centuries have asked. Christians still struggle with understanding the relationship we have with the law. In this sermon we will seek to understand our relationship to the law.
Paul says the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. This means we can’t understand coming to faith in Christ apart from the law and we can’t begin to live for Christ apart from its tutelage. The tension expressed in the aforementioned statement is one that causes debate. How can it be that the law be both our supervisor and teacher at the same time? Can a believer be free from the law and at the same time live by its teaching?
