The bulk of this mix for Ubuntu features bubblegum tracks from 1985. It's a disco mix with a strong South African flavour. Fat mbaqanga basslines, wonky synths and the odd call-and-response - it's everything I love about the sound and it's hard not to want to get up and dance. The last part of the mix enters the early 90s and you can hear the noticeable crossover to that early house sound. There are some unmistakable kwaito themes already emerging - an indication that the township sound was busy changing.
