spectral sound system - ghosts of bay + front
'spectral sound system - the ghosts of bay + front' is an audio installation intended to evoke the spectres of the location's past (in this case, the corner of Toronto's Bay and Front streets, now the location of the Royal Bank of Canada's head offices). It makes use of sonic transducers, which are to be affixed to the large central lobby column, thereby transforming the building architecture into a sound-producing surface.
The audio is composed of the following sections, each intended to conjure a vanished or invisible aspect of the site:
1. 'Lake Iroquois' (prehistoric glacial lake/underwater)
2. 'Great Lake shoreline/wetlands' (pre human inhabitation)
3. 'The Railways'
4. 'the Great Toronto Fire'
5. 'PATH/RBC' (present-day)
6. 'Data' (the sound of data/electrical/information networks)
7. 'Desire' (yearning of a consumer society - spectrally processed pop songs)
