What a contrast we see between the church in Sardis and the church in Philadelphia. it's interesting to us, on 3 Guys, that these two churches, one of which was hot and on fire and the other of which was cold as ice, immediately precede Jesus' remarks about Laodicea, a church that was neither hot nor cold. Sardis is a great picture of the church that exists in yesterday's glory and basks in yesterday's achievements, while failing to manage even the appearance of relevance in the world today. They had the reputation of being alive, but they were dead. How reflective of churches and Christians today. We remember our "glory days" 50 years ago, but are hard pressed to see that God has done anything lately. How very sad, especially when juxtaposed with Philadelphia for whom the Lord himself opened a door that no one could shut because they had a little power and he was going to grow them in that power of the Holy Spirit. Join 3 Guys as we lament with Sardis on what might have been.
