Great rock music has regularly been plundered by ad makers make products or causes sound better than they really are. From the great series of Levis commercials to the recent Christmas run of John Lewis ads, the great ads have often featured memorable songs.
So tonight you’ll hear The Dandy Warhols ‘Bohemian Like You’ (Vodaphone), ‘Boom Boom’ by John Lee Hooker (Levi’s) and Blue Monday by New Order used in of all things an American Express commercial. Did you know that the BBC banned ‘Come Together’ by The Beatles because it mentioned ‘Coke Cola’? We’ll play songs that admen wanted to use for commercials but were turned down – including Free’s ‘Alright now’ plus great songs from The Verve, Violent Femmes and Elton John.
