TW9Y Originally broadcast on Thursday 23.1.14 - Hour 2: Songs about Loneliness or Isolation

From ‘Only the Lonely’ to ‘Owner of a Lonely Heart’ some of the best songs ever have been written when the composer was feeling blue – which is where ‘Blue Bayou’ comes from. Some of the greatest classics of all time have been written about loneliness – such as Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘The Boxer’, Elvis’ ‘Are you lonesome tonight?’, The Beatles ‘Eleanor Rigby’, The Police ‘Message in a Bottle and ‘So Lonely’ and even Gilbert O’Sullivan’s greatest song ‘Alone Again’ was written on the theme of solitude. Not to mention Eric Carmen’s ‘All By Myself’..

So we’ll be crying into our cups, feeling blue, walking in the rain and talking to our mirrors in the bathroom this week.
