Originally broadcast on Thursday 13th March 2014 7-9pm: Hour 1 - Showstoppers – The big songs that ended shows
This week we’re putting a set list together to top all others – the show-stopping songs that artists use to finish their shows. The final encore, the big finish, the best way to leave your audience feeling happy. We’re tracking down those anthems for your listening enjoyment.
Fleetwood Mac usually finish their live shows with ‘Songbird’ and the Kings of Leon serenade their audience with ‘Slow Night, So Long’; whereas The Who finish explosively with ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’. Billy Joel has the pick of a superb catalogue of songs but usually finishes with the story in a song ‘The Piano Man’ and Lynyrd Skynyrd wouldn’t be allowed to leave without playing ‘Free Bird’. Alice Cooper celebrates the end of his shows by playing the cathartic ‘Schools Out’ and Runrig play ‘Loch Lomond’ to a chorus of support from the crowd and lighters aloft.
