The Rob Halligan Special
The BBC has described Rob Halligan as “Bruce Springsteen having English tea with Billy Bragg”. Rob grew up on the south coast, learning to play guitar after a road accident had him spend six months in hospital. With some mates he formed a string of bands and then left Worthing to move up to Coventry where he lived on the streets for a while until a Christian Community took him in. I first met him as a skinny little Year 11 student at the newly created Worthing High School where I taught. The tragic death of his father in the 9/11 terrorist attack moved Rob into some memorable and raw songwriting. Now on his 8th album as a solo artist Rob is emerging as one of the UK’s most lyrical songwriters and has returned to Sussex for a couple of days to do this show and play in Worthing tomorrow night – a show which has sold out. This week Rob chooses the music including six of his own tracks.
