So the story goes that around 2006 I stumbled into a year-long Sunday night residency at Camden's Zensai Bar. I suppose you could call it my first London promoted gig (but generally we didn't do any promotion - how we lasted 12 months is anyone's guess...). Armed with seven hours worth of vinyl each week (we had no CDJs back then) myself and http://www.mixcloud.com/RLM/ dropped an eclectic and soulful soundtrack of assorted flavours. Obviously each week brought a new challenge, sometimes it was busy post Jazz Cafe throw out time, sometimes it was dead for the whole 7 hours and we were chastised for not playing 'uppy uppy' enough (famously on the same night we were also told to stop playing 'Brazilian funeral music'!). Well going through my CDs yesterday I found a two-part segment of one of those nights. Here's the first part (which we agree is certainly not 'uppy uppy') posted for prosperity. Plenty of soul samples, a little dose of hip-hop inspired beats, classic jazz and funk.
