Title: "He had no beauty to attract us to him..."
Text: Isaiah 53.1-3
Summary: In this famous passage, Isaiah says that, "He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him." While some have speculated that the point of this prophecy was to emphasize that Jesus was not physically attractive, that does not seem to fully explain the way that people continually missed the majesty of Jesus. What if, instead, Isaiah was revealing our own corroded desires? What if our sense of beauty is so upside down that we can't recognize real beauty, even when it incarnates right in front of us?
