"The Deadly Coast" is a series of five half-hour programmes. Each explores a shipwreck that has occurred around the coast of West Clare, its impact at the time, and the often far-reaching effects of the shipwreck down through history. These programmes were made with the assistance of the Sound & Vision scheme administered by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.
In this programme, the abandonment and salvage of the Windsor Castle is examined by Paddy Nolan. He tries to unravel the mystery of why the Windsor Castle was found drifting unmanned at the mouth of the Shannon, and then tells the tale of the salvage claims by the Shannon pilots, and their subsequent move to live on Scattery Island. Fascinating.
