The Spectator's agony aunt, Mary Killen, interviews Swedish-born Sophie Sarin, creator of a stunning mud hotel in war-torn Mali, in Africa. Sophie explains how she built the popular hotel, and how the troubles in Mali have stopped tourists visiting the hotel which is situated in the World Heritage Site of Djenne, West Africa.
As an artist and designer, Sophie has also created a business in Djenne called Mali Mali, where you can find exquisite rustic textiles, clothes and furnishings - a positive way to help the locals in this troubled area.
