Hilary Peters

Hilary Peters

Hilary Peters reminisces about finding a house on Ballast Quay in 1963 with an adjacent derelict wharf which she turned into a base for her gardening business and a garden for all of the residents. She talks about founding the city farm movement in the former Surrey Docks - a farm which still exists to this day. She evokes a time when the river was a hive of industry and the dockers and crane drivers were part of the local community which centred around the Cutty Sark Tavern.

Really enjoyed listening to her fascinating stories about my favourite part of London. The river! Looking forward to more. Thanks.
