Hilary Peters reminisces about finding a house on Ballast Quay in 1963 with an adjacent derelict wharf which she turned into a base for her gardening business and a garden for all of the residents. She talks about founding the city farm movement in the former Surrey Docks - a farm which still exists to this day. She evokes a time when the river was a hive of industry and the dockers and crane drivers were part of the local community which centred around the Cutty Sark Tavern.
