The Lord is My Shepherd

Helen Adams Keller (June 27, 1880 – June 1, 1968) was an American
author, political activist, and lecturer. She was the first deaf-blind person
to earn a bachelor of arts degree. Her story is well known of how Keller’s
teacher, Anne Sullivan, broke through the isolation imposed by a near complete
lack of ability to communicate. It is said that one day Anne decided to improve
Helen’s mind by teaching her the Psalm 23. It was read to her once or twice,
her quick memory retained the strange and meaningless words and she was able to
recite it from beginning to end without making a mistake. Helen asked Ann, what
was a Psalm and what it meant. Anne explained that David compared people in the
world as sheep and that God is a Good Shepherd who cares for His sheep. Helen is
not the only blind and deaf person to reject the Lord as her shepherd. Jesus
