On Monday of last week, the 6th of January, the most-respected and longest-running Jazz label in the world - Blue Note Records - celebrated it's 75th anniversary.
Their first recording session back in 1939 in New York City recorded pianists Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis in a one-day session in a rented studio. Over the last 75 years BNR have gone on to record close to 1000 albums, from some over the greatest jazz musicians to ever to pick up an instrument - including Horace Silver, Jimmy Smith, Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan, Art Blakey, Lou Donaldson, Donald Byrd, Grant Green and Hank Mobley to name but a few….
Over the next hour, I'm going to be bringing you a series of tracks from this great label…. Sit back, relax and enjoy.
