Hedonist Jazz (25 October 2010) - Blue Note Covers

Playing tracks by

Takashi Makatsuka, Sunaga t Experience, Toshio Matsuura group feat José James, Harris/Moran/Osby/Shim, Soul4 Introducing Mattia Cigalini and more.

I'm very excited about tonight show. I'm calling it Blue Note Covers.... it's packed full of classic Blue Note tracks performed by cutting edge new jazz artists, featuring the likes of Soil & Pimp Session, Madlib, Sunaga T Experience and (no surprise) Jose James

All through my childhood, teenage years and later life, I've love and listened to Blue Note Records. My parents raised me on a diet of Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver and Hank Mobley.

Sonny Clark's 1958 Blue Note album Cool Struttin, like many Blue Note albums, had an iconic black and white shot of a woman in a black pencil skirt and a pair of black silettos. This for me epitomised the cool late 5o's Blue Noe era. This show for me epitomises Hedonist Jazz..... I hope you enjoy it

This great show is now available to download here:

Amazingly this show has attracted over 500 listeners!!!
I just wanted to say a big thank you to you all

It makes me a very content man when ol' tunes get redone by new artists and pass the music on to the next generation...and very please that djs then link those tracks together. Maintain the trajectory, sir!

I would like to thank all of the 400+ listeners who have listened to my Blue Note Covers show this week. Making it my most popular mixcloud show to date. It's so very much appreciated

great session!! these tracks are all very important to me as they are/were my introduction to jazz. they made me dig deeper and listen to the originals. much like samples of disco in house music and funk breaks used in hip hop. thanks goes to these artists for their knowledge and skill for deepening my breadth of listening.

Very interesting :) I'm new here, this is my first post, greetings from cold Serbia !!!
