This week we explore the early sounds of seminal underground Australian punk band 'X' (not to be confused with the equally significant American band of the same name'.
The classic incarnation of this edgy Sydney institution featured the monstrous bass-work of rock and roll outlaw Ian Rilen and the powerfully expressive Steve Lukas on vocals. Ugly Pop records have recently released the' X-Spurt's LP which is a set of songs recorded by the band in the front room of someone's house in Western Sydney in 1977. Amazingly, the tapes were lost for decades until someone discovered them in storage. Included in this session was a version of perhaps X's best known song 'Degenerate Boy', which we air in the show today. This is followed by three tracks from the classic 'X-Aspirations' LP from 1979, which has also been re-released recently on Ugly Pop.
