Moondog's Lament

Playing tracks by

Moondog (1916-1999) was a poet, a Viking, an inventor of instruments (like the ‘Oo’), a master percussionist and composer, a weird jazzman, a blind man, a hobo. He doesn’t fit in any category really, because his music is just too far out there in his own world. Step into it, have a taste, get hooked if you want to, or just try it.

1st heard Moondog in the 1970 - fill your head with rock - and went out to buy Moondog LP then Moondog 2 etc..

Of Course there's also Janis Joplin's multiple versions All Is Loneliness (Seek and ye shall find)

Mr. Scruff actually used Bird's Lament for Get a move on (sorry, too lazy to tag the tunes in the mixes). Moondog's brilliant!

I never knew Mr. Scruff's "Get a Move on!" was a remix of Symphonique 6 (Good for Goodie). Ya learn something every day, dontcha?

Thanks for introducing me to this talented, creative, magickal man. *pitter patters barefoot in the moonlight*

having only been previously aware of him by reputation, moondog's music isn't as weird as i thought it was going to be - ok, it's not exactly mainstream but it's actually quite accessible and there's no atonalism, dissonance or noise for noise's sake (and actually veers towards easy-listening and exotica at times!)

Magnifique !!! Thx :)

Oh, I do like a bit of Moondog. Great selection
