“Vocals I wish I had written”, to give it its full title, is a mix of stirring melodies and emotive lyrics that inspire a sense of awe, mixed with a pang of professional jealousy, in Cloud Boat’s Tom Clarke.
The creation of London duo Tom Clarke and Sam Ricketts, Cloud Boat are often mentioned in the same breath as James Blake. The similarity is apt enough, but while Cloud Boat are far more visceral and rough around the edges – in a good way – both acts create intelligent electronic music with poignant and effecting vocals at the centre.
The emotive power of a well-chosen vocal is the subject of Cloud Boat’s mix, which is compiled by Tom.
“Some of the songs in this collection are there because of their lyrical power, some for their melodic strength and a few of them for both. I hope you enjoy listening to them and maybe feel inspired by them like I have been.”
Cloud Boat’s debut LP, Book of Hours, will be realised on May 27th via Apollo.
