Teddy Johnson 'The Song Stylists' BBC Radio Two 11th March 1974

Playing tracks by

Peggy Lee and Nat King Cole.

Teddy Johnson primarily known as a very accomplished singer with wife Pearl Carr, also had a very successful career as a radio presenter. Starting with Radio Luxembourg, Teddy later took his warm meliflous tones to the Light Programme and latterly Radio 2. Here he presents an episode of the series 'The Song Stylists' and features the likes of Sinatra, Como, Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald. teddy reflects on the fact that Peggy Lee's 'Folks Who Live On The Hill' has stood the test of time for 17 years and will still be just as popular in another 17 years. Well he was certainly right there. He also points out that not everything Frank Sinatra did was perfect and he demonstrates it with a live version of 'I've Got A Crush On You' to the delight of the audiance in much the same vein as Elvis' laughing version of 'Are You Lonesome Tonight.
