Playing tracks by
DJ Shadow, Tame Impala, The Wilderness in Manitoba, Egyptian Hip Hop, Grizzly Bear and more.
This week on The Night Shift, it was all about psychedelic music; Whether it was the latest tunes from neo-psych rockers Tame Impala, Mac De Marco, and Psyche Tongues, or some freaky funky 70's psychedelia from Portugal (Quarteto 1111), and India (Atomic Forest), the vibes inside the studio we're hazy to say the least. I also tried to focus on the music of DJ Shadow, who was playing Kool Haus that night and Flying Lotus, who was playing Kool Haus the following Saturday night. I found that to be very fitting because I believe DJ Shadow to be the father of instrumental hip-hop, a glorious mash-up of hip-hop, jazz, funk, psychedelia, rare grooves, other tasty bits, while Flying Lotus has embraced these sounds and has traveled with them into a weird and sexy future.
