To Whose Kingdom? (1 Peter 2:13-17)

As the people of God, we are a people of the Kingdom of God. But we also live in states and nations, with local and national identities with leaders and issues that compete for our allegiances and trust. How are we to understand God's design for governments and rulers? Are we supposed to vote? How should we express both approval and disapproval for candidates and issues? Where should we place our trust for our future? And where does our freedom ultimately come from? In this sermon we see that Peter calls us to honor the emperor and his governors. This can be hard sometimes for some of us. But as we see in this sermon it would have been much harder for Peter to do so, but yet he does and he calls us to also. Peter calls us to honor the emperor and to do so as free men and women, our freedom coming from God and not as a license to sin.
