In this sermon Paul continues encouraging the Christians in Philippi, even noting that they have been steadfastly obedient at all times. Knowing that we live in a hostile world, he tells them to be on guard and to stay intentional in working out their salvation with fear and trembling, an awareness of their weakness and the power of sin. Paul tells them that they are light for a broken world and to hold fast to the word of life that they have been given. Too often we just let God grow us, or we take the reins from him to grow ourselves, when it is actually Him who is at work in us, both to will and to work. And we join him in our commitment to Christian growth.
