The Christian life can be hard. Not because of Jesus and the mission of renewal that He calls us to. But because we fight that renewal so hard in our own lives. Instead we stick to old thought and behavior patterns that hurt us, rather than help us, or we think to highly of ourselves while we compare ourselves to someone that we are better than. Jesus knew that would be the case for us, which is why He sends us the Helper to help. The Helper (the Holy Spirit) helps us by 1) making us aware of our bad patterns by convicting us of sin, by 2) showing us the bankruptcy of trusting in our fleeting accomplishments and by 3) defeating the devil which tempts us. Through obedience in hearing and trusting the truth of the Helper we grow in our obedience, in our mission and in our glorifying of God.
