From a lowly, impulsive, rough fisherman to a close friend, disciple of Jesus and shepherd of God's people, we see the calling, growth, stumbles and restoration of Simon Peter through the gracious ministry of Jesus. At their first meeting Peter is fishing and feels unclean before Jesus, and at one of their last meetings Peter is again fishing and rushes to be near Jesus. The difference in the two episodes is Jesus' life lived before Peter, a life of mercy, justice, grace and renewal. A life that invites broken people near to Him. A life that restores and renews. And a life that invites us to follow Jesus in bringing life and renewal to others.
