Advent means 'coming' or the 'arrival' of a thing. We've spent four weeks looking at some physical longings (Thirst, Hunger, Adoption, Home), their deeper spiritual truths and now we see the fullness of their hope in Jesus Christ, fully God, born in the flesh. Coming as a baby, growing as a child and beginning His public ministry with the promise to 'proclaim good news to the poor, liberty to the captive, recovery of sight to the blind, setting at liberty those who are oppressed and proclaiming the year of the Lord's favor.' In coming as a baby, God humbles Himself to enter into our world of shame, oppression, envy and strife to walk among us. Our promised hope has come, and His name is Jesus. In this sermon we read through the early chapters of Luke, seeing the promise of Jesus to Mary, His birth, early years, temptation and the beginning of His ministry.
