This Sermon was preached by Pastor Joseph Thomas on Sunday, January 15, 2018. He continues in our study of the Old Testament with scripture found in Genesis 15.
Intro: The context of chp 14 forms the backdrop
1. God Speaks to Abram’s Concern (vs 1 – 6)
2. God’s Words are Displayed in Action (vs 7-21)
“Covenants” formally bind two parties ~ it has expectations, commitments, consequences, and may have witnesses. The ‘proof’ or sign of the covenant varies (9:12, 17:11, Ex. 31:12-17, etc.). Depending on the nature of a covenant (example: between warring nations/kings), often the right is given to the other to take the life of the one who violates the covenant – also known as a self-curse.
When it comes to all of God’s covenants, you can take it to the bank!
• It’s God’s Word and He swears it on His own life!
• He is the One who is committed to make it work! (Jer. 31:31-33)
