We are on part three of a four-part series entitled: What Matters Most. We started the New Year off talking about the things that matter most in life. We began by looking at the two greatest commandments. The first is to love God with all that is within you. And secondly, we learned that we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. In this week’s message, we are going to look at what it means to love God’s church. After all, the church is the bride of Christ and Jesus loves his bride!
But the problem is that there are many people who don’t love the church. A study was done a few years back that showed what nonbelievers thought of the church. Here were the top three opinions of the church by those outside of the church. One, the church is judgmental. Two, the church is homophobic, or anti-homosexual. Three, the church is too political. With that said, we need to have a better understanding of the purpose and function of the church and why we are to love it.
