Last week we began a new series entitled: What Matters Most. We learned that, at times, we need to be reminded of the things that matter most in life. We held that first and foremost we are to love God with everything that is within us-that’s what matters above all else. And this week we are going to pick up right where we left off. We are going to look at the fact that Jesus said the second greatest commandment is just as important as the first commandment, that we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Once we learn that God is love and the source of all love, then we are given both the motivation and the ability to truly love others. We are to go and do the same.
These two great commandments are equal in value. We are to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. And then that love for God motivates us to love and serve others no matter whether they are poor, rich, gay, straight, black, white, Russian, Hispanic, Muslim, or murderers.
