Sizzla was born Miguel Collins on April 17, 1976 in St Mary and later moved to August Town. Growing up in the 80’s gave Sizzla the opportunity to witness the explosion of conscious reggae and dancehall music. Armed with this knowledge he began honing his skills and travelling extensively with greater known acts of the time. This resulted in much critical acclaim and allowed Sizzla to create a name and a space for himself among Reggae’s finest. Sizzla's combination of Rastafari principles and up-to-the-minute dancehall rhythms gave him an edge over many other artist. A gifted writer and passionate performer, Sizzla Kalonji broke boundaries and appealed to those looking for something new.
In 1997 Sizzla gave the world what is now a classic album, 'Black Woman and Child' (Greensleeves). Bearing all the hallmarks of Bobby 'Digital' Dixon's dancehall-influenced production, the impact on both the reggae and mainstream markets was phenomenal.....
