Self-harm is an umbrella term for any behaviour, action or habit, which can cause damage to your health.
This can include cutting, but also includes over/ under eating, taking drugs, smoking and drinking too much alcohol. It’s a wide area that covers a whole range of actions.
Whilst it is more socially acceptable to discuss your smoking habit or wanting to lose weight, do we know what’s helpful to people that choose more shocking forms of expression such as cutting, burning, pulling hair, picking skin, or head banging? Chris and Steve discuss Self Harming with Lorna Adams and Karolina Makocka, founders of a new non-profit organisation in Milton Keynes – ‘SURFACE’, which aims to provide support to self harmers, the families and people around them. Listen in and sort the myths from the facts.
