Rewind to Panama (’60 & ‘70’s).
One take 100%-vinyl mix of my personal “hecho en Panama” favourites. We start with some nice calypso, over guaguanco to descarga. There’s even a hint of soul, tuna & norteada candela near the end of the mix. In those days Panama was also known for his cumbia tropical, but I kept those tracks for a forthcoming cumbia-special.
I would love to have the originals but they’re (almost) impossible to find, so this mix is based upon the Soundway Record Label’s “Panama!-compilations”. Roberto Ernesto Gyemant did a tremendous job in selecting 3 Double-LP’s full of beautiful tracks. He also wrote great liner notes with each track, it reads like a real road trip through Panamanian musical heritage.
