Playing tracks by
Johnny Osbourne, Horace Andy, Hopeton Lewis, Cedric Brooks, Marcia Griffiths and more.
Dang In Dub was created for my friends Kabe and Dave The Chimp. The two of them published a zine of doodles called Dang, and to launch it they had a night at the Dragon Bar in Old St. This mix was an interesting one, simply because I didn't choose the music: the tracks here were selected by Dave and Kabe as the songs they liked to doodle to most. It is entirely reggae stuff, and my mission was to sequence it and create a kind of dub set around the standard versions of the tracks.
For me this one was great because I built my own dubbing rig to do live versions (in the Jamaican sense) of each song. I bought a lousy spring reverb, got some cheap-as-hell delays and went to town. Then the versions were sequenced up and, for fun, a shedload of your classic dancehall FX were added; sirens, gunshots etc etc.
I'm still really proud of some of the dubs on here. Doing the mix was so much fun I went on to do another two installments... both of which will appear here soon!
