I grew up in a slightly more traditional Southern Baptist church. Hymns like this one were part and parcel for every Sunday morning service. We always sang them from the same, big brown book, with only a piano to accompany.
Now I'm in a more contemporary setting, with a wider variety of music...but the theology hidden in traditional hymns has always stuck with me. In preparing for this week's sermon on the Advent candle of Joy, we're looking at how Jesus was called "Mighty God" in the Old Testament, and immediately this song popped into my mind again.
