Miracles are one way Jesus manifests His Glory. These manifestations also inspire disciples to believe. They have an intended purpose to satisfy the hungry, but they are not for the purpose of flamboyance or to gratify the curious.
Miracles can be worked only in an atmosphere of hunger, expectation, humility, and obedience as our expression of faith. (Just as Mary told the servants at the wedding, "Whatever Jesus tells you to do, just do it!")
