In this session, we looked at probably the single most difficult section of 1 John... saving the best for last!
A quick read of 1 John 2:15-17:
"15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever."
...can be quite troubling. Do I love the world? What does lust mean in this context? How can I ever live up to the expectations of this passage?
The trick to this passage is to understand what the world is in this context and what love is in this context.
To bring the point home, I share my own (Micah Peterson) testimony of trying really hard to be a good Christian my whole life and failing with internet porn and lust.
We hope you enjoy this session!
