Fear comes in many forms. It can have many causes. From Mary, we learn that we can fear God's assessment of us, especially when it's higher than we think it should be. From Joseph we learn that we can also fear God's assignment for us, especially when it seems too hard. From the shepherds we learn that we can fear God's approach to us -- when God seems to come too close too fast.
How does a person stop being afraid? The cure for fear is faith. Faith affirms what God says is true, and faith does what God says to do.
This is the second sermon in the "The Good News of Christmas" series (December 2009), given on Sunday, December 13, 2009, by Pastor Rick Reed at the Metropolitan Bible Church.
