The Cross of Offense
Why is the cross of Christ so offensive to man?
The cross brings attention to God and not man.
The cross imposes the necessity of cleansing.
The restorative ministry of Christ is reflected in:
Where He went
What He did (v, 12b,c)
Cleaning the temple from:
Inferior purposes (1 Corinthians 6:13,19-20)
Selfish ambition (James 3:14-16)
What He said (v. 13)
The cross obliterates social hierarchy.
All must embrace it (1 Corinthians 1:17-18)
All must be ransomed by it (Colossians 2:14)
All must be reconciled by it (Colossians 1:20)
All must die by it (Galatians 2:20)
All must take it up (Luke 9:23)
All must proclaim it (Galatians 5:11)
The cross denies any possibility to man of saving himself.
