This week, we turn a corner in the #forgetyourselfie series, and start focusing on those issues of self that God applauds. In fact, God talks about some kinds of good "self" focus: self-control.
While the world applauds control, because it puts self "in charge," the kind of self-control God values is based on restraint. It is not only a fruit of the Spirit - borne from abiding in the Vine (as we talked about last week), but also one of the ways that our #selfie culture is curtailed in the life of a follower of Jesus. Both Peter and Paul illustrate the need and benefit to a self-controlled life, but both agree that one specific ingredient is necessary: the Holy Spirit.
