THE NORTHERN SOUL YEARS - 1975

THE NORTHERN SOUL YEARS - 1975

Playing tracks by

Rufus Lumley, Saxie Russell, Earl Wright & His Orchestra, The Fidels, E. Rodney Jones and more.

A mate asked me to do a mix of the kind of stuff that was big when we first started on our Northern Soul journey – 1975, 1976, 1977 – well it turned out to be an epic journey and 1975 alone has 68 tracks! So I hope you enjoy the music and the anecdotes. As I do 1976 and 1977 there will be less talking and more music but I felt I needed to set the scene and explain what things were like back then. The records are all from my own collection so if I haven’t got it, then it’s not on the list. And it’s not a ‘biggest sounds of 1975’ kind of thing, it’s a true reflection of the records we listened and danced to. Running time 3 hours 17 minutes all done on the fly (and there is a small amount of swearing). The photograph is of the hall at our youth club where the tuesday night discos were held.

Thx Pete, Loved this all the way thru. I'm a "60" as well and lived a very similar education in Soul, just on the Cleggy side of the country. Sang along t most, danced a couple with a few oddclaps in there and even shed a couple o tears thinking o t lads that aren't there anymore. Brilliant set m8. keep it up. ;-)

Hey Pete, hi from downunder Perth Australia, awesome playlist mate. Thank you. Loved hearing your stories too, keep them comin. It brings back soo many memories from my times at youth clubs over there to and, then the NS scene for those years. Favourite track 'Get Out' still stays with me to this day.

How many of us have a similar story? For me it was 2 or 3 lads that asked for There's a ghost in my house at my local club - Bisley pavilion - and we formed a circle watching them dance in absolute awe....I was hooked! We must've passed each other many times in the Casino! Went from '75 to '77. Great memories Pete!
