A great label for the collector and listener, Doctor Bird was set up by Graeme Goodall in 1966 as part of the Direct / Rio record label set up. They licensed product from virtually all of the top Jamaican producers with the exception of Prince Buster. Issuing around 200 singles between 1966 and 1969, I swear I never even saw a Doctor Bird label in the flesh until the early 80’s, even though some releases, such as DB 1001 Joe White & Chuck, are amongst the biggest selling UK Jamaican releases ever. There’s quality throughout the series and although UK productions tend to dominate the very last releases, the Doctor Bird label is a goldmine for anyone interested in the classic sounds of the mid to late 60’s. This compilation comes from records in my own collection, sorry there aren’t more but I sold over 100 a few years ago. All tracks taken from vinyl 45’s.
